About Us

Heart Who We Are

You’re working toward something, right?

Could it be a new car or a bigger place? Or maybe you want to build up an emergency fund so you don’t have a panic attack whenever the check engine light comes on. Whatever you’re working toward, you can save a lot of time (and lose a lot of stress) by getting there with Pillar.

We help hard-working people like you achieve their financial goals, faster. And we do it with products built around people instead of profit.

If you live or work in the great Ohio counties of Marion, Morrow, Crawford, Wyandot, Richland, and Hancock, you can bank with Pillar. We’re also available to any immediate family member of a current member or anyone who works for one of our many Select Employee Groups.

Once you join — even if you move, change employers, or retire — you can keep your membership with Pillar Credit Union.

Where We Came From

Pillar's mission started in 1960 with hard-working, salt of the earth railroad workers. Initially named Marion Erie Credit Union, we were established as a state-chartered credit union with Erie Lackawanna Railroad employees and their families as members. Quaker Credit Union merged with us in 1977, and Parker-Elgin Federal Credit Union in November 2003.

In 1998, we became a community-chartered credit union with Marion County as our field of membership (and Marion Community Credit Union became our name). We added Morrow County in 2008 and four additional Ohio counties (Crawford, Wyandot, Richland, and Hancock) in 2018.

Wanting our name to better reflect the 9,000+ members across six plus Ohio counties who bank with us, we became Pillar Credit Union in 2020. A significant milestone in 2021 was the opening of our full-service branch in Mount Gilead.

Since those early days of a “lunchbox office,” our credit union has been a safe place for the workers who keep our communities moving forward. Over 60 years later, that hasn’t changed. We continue serving people from all walks of life with a focus on strengthening their financial fitness along the way.

Heart Why Pillar Credit Union over a bank?

Pillar Credit Union offers all the same products and services you expect from a bank. However, we have some unique qualities you won't get at another financial institution.

  1. Great Personal Service: Pillar strives to maintain personal contact with all members. Avoid long waits in long lines with friendly, prompt service at our branches in Marion and Mount Gilead. Speak directly to personal representatives when making inquiries, not a call center.

  2. Profit Sharing: Because we are a not-for-profit cooperative, you own the credit union, and we return the 'profits' to you through better rates than most financial institutions can offer you. We strive to distribute our earnings to our members because we exist to serve you.

  3. Competitive Interest Rates: At Pillar, the interest rate you see is the rate you'll get. No need to haggle because we give you our best rate right upfront.

  4. Volunteer Board of Directors: The direction of our credit union isn’t guided by out of town investors. Our Board Members are active members of Pillar, voted on by members at our Annual Meeting, and with short terms so they need to be re-elected every few years,

  5. One Member = One Vote: Speaking of voting, every member of Pillar gets an equal vote. It doesn’t matter how many products or services you use or how much is in your account. You have the same voting power as everyone else.

At the heart of our organization is a commitment to provide first-class financial services to our members. We want to meet your financial needs.

Heart Mission Statement

We strive to strengthen the financial fitness of our members.
