Pillar Credit Union to Welcome Tappan Community Credit Union Members Through Merger

Pillar Credit Union has announced its approved merger with Tappan Community Credit Union, with the merger planned to take effect June 1, 2026.

The merger will expand Pillar’s presence in Richland County through a branch location in downtown Mansfield while welcoming Tappan’s members into the Pillar family. Tappan Community Credit Union has a long history of serving the Mansfield area and was originally founded to serve employees of the former Tappan Appliance plant.

“This merger is about building on the strengths of two institutions with deep roots in the communities they serve,” said Christine Gibson, President and CEO of Pillar Credit Union. “We’re honored to welcome Tappan members to Pillar and continue the legacy of service they’ve known, while also strengthening our ability to serve members well into the future.”

Tappan Community Credit Union Board President Michelle Jacobs said the merger is centered on member benefit. ‘This change is designed to strengthen our organization, expand available services, and enhance the overall experience for our members,’ Jacobs said.

For current Pillar members, no changes to existing accounts or account numbers are expected as a result of the merger. Pillar leaders say the most visible change for current members will be the addition of a new Pillar branch location in downtown Mansfield.

The merger also represents continued growth for Pillar Credit Union, strengthening its financial position and extending its reach into a new market. Following the merger, Pillar will serve more than 10,500 members across its footprint, with assets projected at approximately $132 million.

Tappan Community Credit Union has served nearly 800 members in the Mansfield area. By joining forces, the two organizations aim to preserve local service while creating additional strength and opportunity for the future.

More information and member updates will be shared through direct communication and on Pillar Credit Union’s website as the effective date approaches.
